Marvel Legends 85th Anniversary: Wolverine - Toying Around Reviews

This week we will be checking out the all-new Marvel Legends Astonishing X-Men Wolverine figure from Hasbro. This figure is a part of the Marvel 85th anniversary subline that Hasbro is doing this year. The Marvel Legends Series is a lower-tier toy line that collectors and non-collectors alike would be interested in. This is an action figure line based on the characters of Marvel Comics, initially produced by Toy Biz, and then by Hasbro. This line is in the 6-inch (150 mm) scale, with spin-off lines in the 4-inch (100 mm), 8-inch (200 mm), and 12-inch (300 mm) scale. These figures tend to look good inside and outside the box.

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's check out the packaging.

Wolverine comes in what will be the new style for most figures coming out from Hasbro across all lines now. The box is a rectangle with the Marvel Legends logo at the top left. The figure itself along with his accessories are displayed in the middle. The character's name runs down the right side of the box. At the bottom we have the Marvel logo along with the tagline Celebrating 85 years, letting us know that this figure is a part of the 85th anniversary line. Turning the box to the side we see we have the Marvel Legends log again at the top, in the middle we have a little bit of a wrap-around of the plastic window from the front, this is great for any in-box collectors who wish to keep the figure mint in box. At the bottom, we again have the 85th-anniversary logo. The back of the box again has the Marvel Legends logo, the character's name, and a nice big picture of Wolverine from Astonishing X-Men #3. The other side of the box gives us another picture of Wolverine with the 85th-anniversary logo below it.

INSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's take a look at how the figure comes packed inside.

This new box is very collector-friendly. Hasbro has given us a little slit at the bottom of the box to make it very easy to open. Inside the box, we have Wolverine in his plastic prison. Behind Wolverine, we have a nice insert for the anniversary line. Its gold in color with a lot of the Marvel Heroes logos.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Wolverine out of the box i would have to say Hasbro just about nailed this figure. The suit looks just about perfect and the added sculpt and paint on the arms for his hair is just top notch. Hasbro went above and beyond with this little guy.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

Wolverine comes with a masked head, a left and right fist, an open right hand, and a finger-pointing left hand.

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

SINESTRO'S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

DUMBBELL JOINTED NECK - allows you to turn the head 360 degrees and make the head look up and down slightly.

BUTTERFLY HING - This allows you to move the shoulder area front and back to get a better range of motion.

BALL-HINGED SHOULDERS - These give the arm 360-degree rotation and the ability to raise and lower the arm.

UPPER BICEP SWIVEL - This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360 degrees.

DOUBLE-JOINTED ELBOWS - This allows you to bend the arm over 90 degrees.

AB CRUNCH - This cut lets you bend the figure front and back at the Abs.

BALL SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS - You can turn his wrists in a 360-degree circle while bending them up and down.

DIAPHRAGM SWIVEL lets you turn the figure around 360 degrees at the diaphragm.

BALL JOINTED LEGS - This allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

DOUBLE-JOINTED KNEES - The joint enables you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.

HINGED ANKLES WITH ROCKERS - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back. The rockers will enable you to rock the ankles towards the outside and inside of the legs of the figure.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Wolverine stands right around 6 inches tall. For comparison, we do have a lot. Here is just about every Wolverine figure I have in my collection. first up we have the old ToyBiz Astonishing Wolverines, Masked and unmasked. next, we have the Hot Claws Wolverine from a few years ago. Next up is Old Man Logan, followed by Wolverine from the love triangle 3 Pack and the Wolverine from the 2018 Apocalypse Wave. Lastly, we have our old classic brown suit and the newer brown suit from the recent Krakoan era.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 5/5 - The paint on Wolverine is great, the added arm hair is just top-notch.

FIGURE SCULPT 5/5 - They outdid themselves with this guy. The sculpting of the arm hair just makes him that much better.

POSING 4/5 - You can get him in just about every pose you want

ACCESSORIES: 4/5 - I don't know about the wide open hand, maybe a half-closed hand to make it look like he is cracking his knuckles? I won't know

DURABILITY 5/5 - The plastic is strong and the pinless joints are great.

OVERALL SCORE 4.6/5 - This is the best Wolverine figure Hasbro has done yet. If you see him pick him up because he will be hard to find.

RETAIL COST: $24.99
