Today, we are taking a look at Dark Leo from N.E.C.A. This version of Leo comes from the IDW Saturday Morning Adventures TMNT comic book. This is an evil Leo that works for The Shredder and The Foot. NECA, a New Jersey-based company founded in 1996, is a leading manufacturer of collectibles licensed from various entertainment sources, including films, video games, sports, music, and television. With over 60 licenses, NECA produces a wide range of products that cater to collectors.
PACKAGING:
Before we open this up, let's check out the packaging.
Leo, like most single releases for cartoon/comic figures, arrives in a rectangular-style box. The front of the box features our new Dark Leo, about to indulge in a delicious scoop of his brother’s. Turning the box to the side, we find the Nick and NECA logos, the TMNT logo, and the figure’s title once again. The back of the box showcases more artwork depicting Leo embracing his newfound evil persona. Finally, turning the box around one more time, we encounter the same information on this side as we did on the right side.
INSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's take a look at how the figure comes packed inside.
On the front of the box, there’s a flap that opens up to reveal a nice action shot of Leo on the left. On the right, you can see the figure displayed with all his accessories. Once you take everything out of the box, you’ll notice that the background insert is a picture of the Party Wagon. Looking at Leo, you can see that he’s been securely placed in his plastic prison, complete with all his accessories.
OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
Now, with Leo free from his plastic prison, we can see that NECA did a great job on this figure. He looks just like he did in Saturday Morning Adventures issue #20.
ACCESSORIES:
Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.
Dark Leo comes with left and right open hands, Left and right holding hands, a whip with mace ball, two Katana swords, and a foot clan control mask.
ARTICULATION:
How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!
LEONARDO'S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

BALL-HINGED SHOULDERS: provide 360-degree arm rotation and raise/lower capabilities.
UPPER BICEP SWIVEL: allows the entire arm below the cut to rotate 360 degrees.
DOUBLE JOINTED ELBOWS: enable over 90-degree arm bending.
SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS: allows you to turn his wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.
BALL JOINTED LEGS: This allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.
UPPER THIGH SWIVEL: the leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees.
DOUBLE-JOINTED KNEES: allow the leg to bend back to the buttocks of the figure.
ANKLE SWIVELS: The ankle swivel lets you turn them 360 degrees.
SIZE COMPARISON:
How does the size of this figure compare to others?
Our new Leo stands right at 5.5 inches. Here is our new Dark Leo standing with our main Leo and our new Archie Comics Shredder figure.
RATING:
What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
PAINT JOB 5/5 - The figure is covered in paint, and it is done very well on my copy.
FIGURE SCULPT 5/5 - This guy looks really good, i feel like he walked right out of the comic book.
POSING 3.5/5 - You can get him in some good poses; however, the leg joints are a little tight, and the right shoulder can only go up so high due to the shoulder blades on him.
ACCESSORIES: 4.5/5 - A few more hands and maybe an unmasked head would have been perfect.
DURABILITY 4.5/5 - The plastic is strong, just a little too tight in the joints, took a lot of warming up to get them to move.
OVERALL SCORE 4.5/5 - If you are a TMNT fan or a fan of the comic books, you should pick this guy up; he is a lot of fun.
RETAIL COST: $37.99
