Today we will be taking a look at the 12-inch Darkseid from the DC Comics Icons two-pack. This 2 pack comes with both Darkseid and his daughter, Grail. We will be looking at Darkseid today.
Packaging: Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.
Looking at the front the figure comes packed in the standard DC Icons box. We see a large window that showcases both the figures as well as all of the accessories. This gives great visibility for collectors that may not be opening it. It shows the DC Icons logo with Darkseid's Omega logo inside the O. The name of the figure is printed on the right side of the display window. The left of the box lets you know that this is the line's 22nd figure. Below we get another look at the Omega logo as well as the DC Icons logo. It also lets us know that this figure is based on Darkseid's look from "The Darkseid War". Flipping the packaging around to look at the back gives you a peek at Darkseid and Grail out of the package alongside another figure you can pick up Batgirl and her bike. on the bottom of the package, it lets us know that the figures were designed by Ivan Reis and Darkseid was sculpted by Dave Cortes. On the right side of the box, the display window continues so that you can get a decent view of the figure on the side. This is another benefit to our friends that choose not to open the figure.
Outside of the Box: Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
On first look at Darkseid can clearly see how tall he is. He towers over every other figure. When you get in close to Darkseid you can see all the tiny details in his body and face. Darkseid's face looks menacing with all the sculpted lines and cracks in his face. The overall texture of the figure is nice as well. With the smooth blue areas for his clothes and the grey ruff areas for his skin.
Accessories: Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.
Darkseid comes with two open-palmed hands that you can interchange with the figure.
Articulation: How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!
Darkseid's articulation includes the following:
Mushroom Pegged Head - allows you to swivel the head 360 degrees. Ball Jointed Shoulders - gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm. Singles Jointed Elbows - this allows for a 90-degree bend at the elbow. Hinged Swivel Wrists - the wrist articulation lets you move the wrist up and down and move the hand itself around. Waist Cut - the entire upper chest section is able to move around 360 degrees. Ab Crunch - this cut lets you be able to bend the figure front and back at the Abs. Ball Jointed Legs - This allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion. Upper Thigh Swivel - the leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees (however on mine the thighs are stuck). Double Jointed Knees - joint allows you to bend the leg itself all the way back to the butt of the figure. Ankle Rockers - with this joint you can move the leg of the figure so you can get the feet as flat as possible when spreading the legs out.
Size Comparison: How does the size of this figure compare to others?
Darkseid stands right around 12 inches tall. Here is Darkseid standing next to Batman and Superman, both from the DC Multiverse Justice League line.
Rating: What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
Paint Job 3/5 The paint job is well done on the figure. My Darkseid does have some paint in spots it shouldn't be so that took some points off. I feel when you are paying for a figure at this price point you should get your money's worth. Figure Sculpt 5/5 The sculpt on Darkseid is just perfect. It looks like he came right out of the comic book. DC Collectibles knocked it out of the park with this one. Posing / Durability 3/5 Now while the figure is massive it does have the standard DC Collectibles articulation issues. only a single elbow joint and on my figure, the upper thigh cut seems to be glued in place. very disappointing. Overall Score 3.66/5 While I do have some issues with the figure, I do enjoy him very much. The pure size of the figure alone makes any shortcomings he has worth having him. I picked up my Darkseid at BigBadToyStore.com. Retail Cost: $99.99 currently on sale for $84.99
TIME FOR SOME TOYING AROUND!
