Toying Around Reviews - Disney Pixar Lightyear Movie: Alpha Class Buzz Lightyear & Sox

Updated: Feb 8, 2023

Today we will be taking a look at the Alpha Class Buzz Lightyear and Sox figures. The Alpha class is designed more with the collector in mind. This is a 6-inch figure line and as of this review has 3 figures in the line. Mattel, Inc. is an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company founded in January 1945 and headquartered in El Segundo, California. The products and brands it currently produces include Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, American Girl, UNO, Thomas & Friends, Polly Pocket, and Masters of the Universe.

PACKAGING: Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

Buzz comes in a rectangle-style box, Buzz and Sox are displayed in the middle with all the accessories. The Alpha Class logo is in the upper right of the box while down the bottom we have some artwork of Buzz along with the Lightyear movie logo. Turning the box to the side we have the movie logo along with some more of the artwork wrapping around the front of the box. The back of the box shows us Buzz playing with Sox and a few more of the figures we can get in this line. Moving the box around one more time we have some more artwork of Buzz.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX: Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Buzz out of the box we can see that this figure does a good job of making him look like how he looks in the movie. The face however does look very shiny overall.

ACCESSORIES: Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

Buzz Lightyear comes with an arm blaster, Sox, and a case for Sox

ARTICULATION: How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

BUZZ LIGHTYEAR’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: MUSHROOM BALL NECK - allows you to turn the head 360 degrees.

BALL-HINGED SHOULDERS - These give the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

UPPER BICEP SWIVEL - This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360 degrees.

DOUBLE-JOINTED ELBOWS - This allows you to bend the arm over 90 degrees.

SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS - This allows you to turn the figure's wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.

UPPER DIAPHRAGM SWIVEL - This cut lets you be able to bend the figure front and back at the Abs.

WAIST SWIVEL: This lets you turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

BALL JOINTED LEGS - With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

UPPER THIGH SWIVEL - The leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees.

DOUBLE-JOINTED KNEES - The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.

HINGED ANKLES - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back.

SIZE COMPARISON: How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Buzz stands right around the 6.5-inch mark. Here is our Buzz standing with the 5-inch Buzz Movie figure, the Disney Toy Box Buzz, and the McFarlane Mirrorverse Buzz figures.

RATING: What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 5/5 The paint job overall on the figure is well done.

FIGURE SCULPT 5/5 The sculpt of the figure does look like how he will look in the upcoming movie.

POSING 4/5 Posing overall is ok. He is in a space suit so at times it can be a little hard to get him into some good poses.

ACCESSORIES: 3/5 WHERE ARE HIS WINGS AND HELMET????

DURABILITY 3/5 The plastic feels soft and hollow. not sure how it will hold up over time.

OVERALL SCORE 4/5 The figure is just missing a few things to make him perfect.

RETAIL COST: $24.99 I PICKED MINE UP AT ENTERTAINMENT EARTH
