What’s going on? Welcome back for a whole new year of Toying Around reviews, today we will be taking a look at Raphael from the Loyal Subjects BST AXN BST AXN (pronounced as “Best Action”) line. Created in 2009, The Loyal Subjects is one of the market leaders in art-driven collectibles ranging from vinyl toys, fiberglass multiples, and prints to apparel, inflatables, and housewares. The company's licenses include Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and more. Some might not know this but back in the 80s when Turtles were rocking and rolling, you had some very different looks for the turtles, The cartoons, toys, comics, movies, and even the merchandise all were different from one another. Right now NECA is making figures based on cartoons and movies, Super 7 is making figures based on old toys and I feel like this Loyal Subjects line is based on the merchandise.
PACKAGING: Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.
Raphael comes in the standard BST AXN box, it’s a large window box with artwork of the charter on the left side. The TMNT logo is on the bottom right with Raphael’s name next to it on the right. Turning the box to the side we have some artwork of all 4 ninja turtles. Moving to the back of the box we have a CGI image of Raphael with a small bio “this hothead is also the most opinionated, impulsive, and restless turtle! Raphael (Ralph) loves nothing more than to test himself in battle, and trains for sheer enjoyment! he’s usually the one to leap into action, and it’s nearly impossible to get him to back down.“ a listing of all the accessories included. Turning back around one more time we have the window from the front wrapping around, this is nice for any inbox collectors to be able to look at the figure from the side.
OUTSIDE OF THE BOX: Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
Taking Raphael out of the box we do get a nice look at all the bright colors on him. The green and red really pop on this figure.
ACCESSORIES: Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.
Raphael comes with a grinning face, 2 open hands, 2 gripping hands, 2 closed hands, 2 Sais, a throwing star, and a dagger
ARTICULATION: How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!
RAPHAEL’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
MUSHROOM BALL NECK - allows you to turn the head 360 degrees.
BUTTERFLY HING - This allows you to move the shoulder area front and back to get a better range of motion.
BALL-JOINTED SHOULDERS:
It gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.
UPPER BICEP SWIVEL - This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360 degrees.
DOUBLE-JOINTED ELBOWS - This allows you to bend the arm a little under 90 degrees.
SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS - It allows you to turn his wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.
UPPER AB SWIVEL - This cut lets you be able to bend the figure a little bit left and right, right about the abs.
BALL JOINTED LEGS - With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.
DOUBLE-JOINTED KNEES - The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.
BALL JOINTED ANKLES - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back and also to the left and right.
SIZE COMPARISON: How does the size of this figure compare to others?
This Raphael stands right around the 5-inch mark. Here is Ralphael standing next to Hasbro’s Green Ranger and the N.E.C.A. Raphael
RATING:
What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
PAINT JOB 4/5 - The paint on the figure overall isn’t that bad, there are a few spots here and there that could have been hit with another coat but not bad.
FIGURE SCULPT 4/5 - This figure looks really good if you look at it from the standpoint that he is based on the merchandise, Looking at the side of the box with the figure it is a good likeness.
POSING 3/5 - Now while you can get him in just about any pose you would like, it is hard for him to keep the pose due to the softer plastic that is used on the figure. The joints are not tight and over time this figure will break down.
ACCESSORIES: 4/5 - This guy comes with a ton of accessories, my only real issue is, that all the weapons are super gummy.
DURABILITY 2/5 - As I stated in the posing section, the plastic is soft and it is already hard for the figure to hold any pose or sometimes stand.
OVERALL SCORE 3.4/5 - Hopefully, The Loyal Subjects will start to use better plastic, because they could have some winners here if they didn’t feel so cheap.
RETAIL COST: $17.98 I PICKED MINE UP AT WALMART!
